Sanctum/sealionwoman
Sanctum/Sealionwoman
Sealionwoman, is vocalist Kitty Whitelaw and double bass player Tye McGivern. Together they craft a unique and defiantly uncategorisable sound. Whitelawโs rich and beguiling vocal delivery and McGivernโs atmospheric, inventive approach to his instrument creates melancholy soundscapes, torch-song transgressions and rapturous drama.
In late 2018 they released their first album โSirenโ with Antigen records, and their second album is currently in production. Kitty and Tye have been collaborating for many years and have played numerous live venues in the UK including EARTH Hackney, Union Chapel and Cafe Oto. They have also had the opportunity to support incredible acts such as Meursault, Tanya Tagaq, Bohren and der Club of Gore, Sarathy Kowar, and Collocutor.
โSealionwomanโs music flips folk music on its head, taking traditional Scottish music and moving it into a darker, more atmospheric direction...โ The Quietus
โBjรถrk, Billie Holiday and The Anchoress come to mind while listening to Kitty Whitelawโs exquisite vocalsโฆ Itโs Mercury Prize bait, this โ haunting, monolithic soundscapesโฆโ Prog Magazine

The Sanctuary Series : STILL OUT
Touching on friendship, place and the passing of time, STILL OUT is an audio-visual collaboration between musician-producers Will Cookson, Tom Haverly and filmmaker Rufus Exton. Non-narrative in form, it evokes a road trip they took together in the summer of 2024 from Yorkshire to Devon, using footage of the natural world to illuminate a musical collage inspired by their rediscovery of The KLFโs iconic 1990 album Chill Out.
Taking in various landscapes referenced in the music, their journey was shot by friend and filmmaker Rufus Exton. The resulting footage was then edited into a 40-minute reflection on what it means to step away from the routine of daily life, celebrating our relationship to the world around us and what it means to pass through time and space.

Sanctum - Philippe Nash + Mumble Tide
Philippe Nash:
Drifting beautifully between personal conflicts and the natural world; Philippe's piercing rumination on his own emotional wilderness is met by a crackle of nightly noise in the far-off distance, a wash of ambience approaching. With minimal arrangements, Philippe is a champion of singer-songwriter form leaning into an acoustic guitar that flickers to meet his both angelic and menacingly vulnerable voice. Having opened for the likes of Billy Bragg and Michelle Stoddart of the Magic Numbers, Philippe is gathering steam in building his own musical arch. He will be accompanied by strings for this special Stroud show and just coming off a solo tour opening for UK indie alt-rock folk singer Thea Gilmore.
Mumble Tide:
Buoyed by an ever-evolving collage of pop influences, Mumble Tideโs work has regularly swung between the sweet and savage, the grungy and glistening. But at its heart is the meeting of two minds; singer-songwriter Gina Leonard and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Rogers. Over the last few years they have honed their distinctive brand of kaleidoscopic indie, all anchored by Leonardโs crystalline, plaintive voice.

Good on Paper Party
GOOD ON PAPER 10TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY/FUNDRAISER
Founded and run by Alex Hobbis (editor) and Adam Hinks (design) Good On Paper was launched in February 2015 to provide a definitive guide to arts, music, theatre, film, dance, comedy, literature and spoken word events in Stroud to both its residents and visitors.
As well as producing listings the magazine also supports the work of local artists, authors, musicians, filmmakers and other creatives...
It also provides budding writers, photographers and filmmakers the opportunity to hone their skills and gain invaluable experience in print and media which they have used in furthering their own careers.
In 2025 the magazine will be going into its 10th year. A mighty milestoneโฆAnd the Good On Paper Party/Fundraiser returns on Saturday 1st February, this time taking places across two venues: the radical โpay-what-you-canโ community hub The Long Table and multi-arts venue Studio 18.
First launched in 2016 the GOP Party acts as a fundraiser for Good On Paper; whilst bringing forth a hoard of local artists, musicians, poets, DJ's and more to celebrate the vibrant, creative scene which Stroud is increasingly becoming renowned for. A one day festival if you will. An eclectic mix of live music, spoken word and art. As well as securing a future for the magazine which remains a part time project it will also raise vital funds for the venues hosting it.
Good On Paper continues its close working relationship with d&b audiotechnik who will install their world renowned speakers for the stage at the Long Table. And Valley Steppas will be wheeling in their epic sound system to Studio 18...
