SANCTUM | GWENIFER RAYMOND + Jacob Lovatt and Christopher Haddow
Join us for a night of sonic exploration.
Welsh guitarist Gwenifer Raymond conjures sparse American primitive instrumentals drawn from the roots music of Mississippi and Appalachia. Influenced by the likes of Skip James, John Fahey, Roscoe Holcomb and John Hurt her latest release, Last Night I Heard the Dog Star Bark is a hybrid of the ancient and the futuristic, where the arcane etchings of occult folk horror fuse with the unfathomable equations of the cosmos. As celestial drones and mutant folk meet a frenetic blues that bends and twists like space-time, on her new album Raymond finds herself evoking the work of pioneering rocket scientists, the words of fictional hobo prophets and the concepts of mathematical infinity.
βA profound talentβ - The Guardian
βRaymondβs mastery of her instruments is unmatchedβ - The Quietus
___
Jacob Lovatt and Christopher Haddow perform selected repertoire from the 17 year back catalogue of their seminal Glasgow cult band, Jacob Yates and The Pearlygate Lockpickers
A special brew of horror and loss ... Singer and songwriter Jacob Lovatt tells stories of Saville haunted care home corridors, abandoned cars, faith healers and shape shifters. Accompanied on various guitars by Christopher Haddow, whose minimal slide and fingerstyle playing adds light and shade to Lovatts dark, narrative prose

Sanctum | CURTAIN TWITCHER + GRANDAD + Iridal
Join us for a night of sonic explorations.
Sheffield based female electronic duo Sophie Stone and Grace Griffin generate corrupted downtempo post Balearic chug pulses and wobbles, throbs and twitches- full of fat noises and bolshy Moogery. It's human and appealingly analogue. More Delia Derbyshire's Radiophonic Workshop than DAF, More Tangerine Dream than Depeche Mode. Not your average bloketronica.
βNorthern Electro at its mesmerising bestβ - Now Then Magazine
βLove it! Electronic wonkiness at its finestβ - Richard Norris (The Grid)
β
Experimenting in different styles of music and with different bands, Stroud-based Iridal draws from everything he has learnt over the years- from starting out as a Drum and Bass DJ in Torquay to running a club night for 2 years at the end of the 90s and early 2000s. Wearing his influences on his sleeve, Iridal brings a rich and playful helping of breakbeat, trance and dance to the table with the feel of Orbital and Kiasmos.
β
Stroud favourite GRANDAD returns with their signature sonic maximalism for an attention deficit age. Featuring electronic skulduggery, shoehorned geetar riffs and occasional coordinated bits, this is a line up not to be missed!

Sanctum | Zyggurat + Tullis Rennie
Join us for a night of sonic explorations.
Zyggurat is an electronic music project by Pete Grimshaw on modular synthesizer with Sam Wooster on trumpet and Nathan England-Jones on drums. With releases on Clay Pipe Music and Old Technology, the band havereceived acclaim for their skilful and spontaneous modular synth performances, drawing special praise for the sonic interplay between the synth work, extended trumpet techniques and the organic flow of the drums.
Tullis Rennie is an electronic musician, improvising trombonist, composer, and field recordist who "foregrounds the act of listening as an active component in the creation of musical experienceβ (The Wire Magazine). His latest album Safe Operating Space (Efpi Records) is a hybrid of club music and acoustic free improvisation that results in "boundary-pushing electronica... as if we were listening to an intergalactic visitorβs attempt at appropriating the dancefloor" (theQuietus), in which the musicreflects on themes such as global heating, AI-generated deepfakes, family life, and Kate Bush.
A delicious pay as you can dinner will be served from 6-8pm.
Sanctum will start at 8pm in the Sanctuary
Tickets will be available soon.
Sanctum | Lili Holland-Fricke + William J Stokes
Join us for a night of sonic explorations.
Lili Holland-Fricke is an experimental cellist and songwriter whose work explores the outer edges of her instrument, weaving introspective, dreamlike fragments into gently unsettling sonic worlds. She released her debut album βdear alienβ - a collaborative project with producer Sean Rogan - with Melodic Records last November.
ββ¦an unexpected take on the meeting of improvised sound and avant-songwriting, buzzing with a quiet energy that both shields the listener from and submerges them in a distinctively contemporary discomfort β- The Quietus
β-
William J. Stokes is an artist and producer based in Stroud. As a member of the avant-pop trio Voka Gentle (βhard to classify and even harder not to loveβ -Uncut) he has made two critically acclaimed albums and has collaborated with Wayne Coyne, Panda Bear, Sonic Boom and more. Weaving a dialogue between the guitar and modular synthesiser, Stokesβ compositions and soundscapes are suspended between noise, ambience, melody, drone and rhythm. Drawing from a palette of electronic sounds, samples, vocals and electric guitar, Stokes' music fuses compositional structure with spontaneous passages to create unique performances.

The Sanctuary Series : CHRIS SMAJE
Brimscombe Mill hosts The Sanctuary Series; bringing together visionary thinkers, change makers, and creatives to spark dialogue and inspire action on themes of economic justice, sustainability, community, and the arts.
How we can meet the challenges of our age by moving away from the political and economic philosophies of both the left and right? How can we move to a more equitable re-organization of society, economy, land and food production, driven by the local community rather than a central government?
Today, society and government are still asking what our country can yield, and in what quantity. They do so because in a sense we are still living in conquest-based societies.
Farmer Chris Smaje argues that work and production should rest on commitments struck in the community rather than deals in a market. We need a concept of shared common good, of what life is for. Ultimately, we should build a sense of future possibility around local ecological societies dedicated to human and ecological wellbeing.
Much of the global damage to the environment has arisen not because people were there in the landscape, but because they werenβt. Itβs time to hospice modernity and build a green Earth rising.
In his book, Chris discusses what this society and landscape might look like in the near future and longer term.
Join us for a special Pay-As-You-Can meal at The Long Table beforehand and the bar will be open all evening.
The talk and Q&A will begin at 19:30.

They play classic Blues Rock originals and draw on the legacy of Rory Gallagher, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore, Jimi Hendrix for our interpretations of their material.

Sanctum: Jack Cooper & Tara Cunningham + BELLS
Sanctum Presents: Jack Cooper & Tara Cunningham + BELLS
πΏ Jack Cooper and Tara Cunningham are an improvising duo whose music is largely informed by a shared approach to the guitar; wide open chords, hazy tone and obtuse melody.
Having played alongside each other in a quartet with Heather Roche and Dominic Lash and then most recently in Cooperβs group Modern Nature; their debut album, βPond Lifeβ was released on Mossy Tapes in January 2025.
βPond Lifeβ celebrates both the sonic potential of clean, un-effected guitar, as well as the naive, exploratory nature of responding to musical parameters in tandem. Notes, pitches and melody swirl around, breaching for air before diving below into the abyss.
πΏBELLS is an evolving ensemble led by multi-disciplinary artist Kandice Holmes, hailing from south London, based on Greek Island Crete. Her βprophetic folkβ storytelling is set to experimental textures, from traditional, medieval drone to the psychedelic. The name, symbolic of a desire for their music to act as a clarion call. To speak truth to power, rally people together and raise up praise.
Past collaborations include βGypsy Daveyβ with Kikagaku Moyo (Sub Pop, 2020), a spoken word feature on old friendsβ Voka Gentleβs βDREAD/TKOEβ (2021), and original demo βUNION,β on U.S. label Spinster Recordsβ mixtape among artists including Lou Turner and Avey Tare (2023).
