Tummyache + Philippe Nash + Takeda

A near-solstice triple bill on Thursday 18th June that will bleach your insides out and leave you happier for it. With a shared DIY ethos and making ‘from the fringe, for the fringe’ these three acts will deliver an historic night of collective power in The Sanctuary.

Tummyache
Tummyache is the art-rock/post-hardcore project of Soren Bryce, built on raw emotion, sharp lyricism and an experimental approach to alternative rock. With a sound that blends jagged guitars and vulnerable storytelling, Tummyache occupies the edge between chaos and clarity - a space where personal turmoil becomes catharsis.

Philippe Nash
Philippe Nash’s mysterious evasion of wider acclaim lives like a hidden note under the bridge of his eight string guitar. If you know, you know. Accompanied by cellist Simon Bower and strung up like the host of heartbroken songwriters he knowingly evokes (Kurt Cobain, Elliot Smith, Damien Rice) his ability to wield emotional atmospheres is as disarming as it is captivating.

Takeda
This Norwich based four-piece fuse the melodic and emotional sensibility of folk with the noise and fuzzed guitar tones of grunge. “Takeda’s music is joyously original” - Clash

Timings:

Sanctum | The Sleeves

Sanctum | The Sleeves

Join us on Friday 10th July for a night of sonic explorations!

The Sleeves are the duo of Jack Cooper and Tara Cunningham, both likely known to you as one half of Modern Nature.  Following an all-instrumental Mossy Tapes release last November, Cooper and Cunningham have recorded 10 new songs showcasing their vocal and guitar interplay with only the faintest echoes of prior efforts (individually or collectively), representing a fully realized leap forward from their largely improvised debut.

'The Sleeves' is a somewhat counter intuitive take on the guitar/vocal duo formula (provided you think there is such a thing) though it's not nearly as simplistic as "the space between the notes"  -- it would be the height of exaggeration to say an album this simultaneously expansive and incandescent is unprecedented.  But it doesn't happen nearly often enough, either.

Mesadorm + Mara Simpson

After four years of quiet recalibration, the critically acclaimed alt-rock quintet Mesadorm have returned with the announcement that their much-anticipated third album, Comfort and Lies is set for release in June 2026.

To mark this occasion, the band will be performing across the UK this summer and we’re delighted to welcome them to The Long Table Sanctuary on Friday 17th July!

Difficult to confine to a single genre, Mesadorm exist in the spaces between art rock and dream pop. A collaborative project between five lifelong friends - Blythe Pepino, Daisy Palmer, Jo Silverston and David Johnston- their long-shared history shaped by friendship, love, rupture and reunion gives the band an intuitive chemistry, unfolding live as performances that feel both grounded and transportive.

Their debut album Heterogaster (2018) was a striking introduction that received widespread acclaim (“some of the most interesting music this year” - The Guardian) including being named ‘Album of the Year’ by BBC Introducing in the West and featured in The Guardian’s Best Contemporary Albums of the Year.

Support for this show comes from Mara Simpson

Unicorn Ship Explosion

Unicorn Ship Explosion - two musicians riding the rhinoceros of improvised failure and searching for magical moments behind the sofa. You can’t always win and that’s life. Roberto Pennypincher and Sash! Oblong are naive and failing. The musical journey is without a plan b. Kaleidoscopes of sound with rhythmical nonsense.

In their debut album, There's A Rhinoceros In The Mega Church (released by Stroud’s very own Sound Records) Unicorn Ship Explosion pull post-rock apart and rebuild it with odd structures, abrupt turns and an experimental streak that keeps the album unpredictable from start to finish.

A rare opportunity to see the elusive duo live - you don’t want to miss this!

Caraway

On Friday 4th September we’re very excited to experience the folk-jazz-electronica of Bristol based collective Caraway!

Caraway’s sound is a soul-stirring blend of poetic lyrics with rich soundscapes, foley samples, intricate rhythms, double bass grooves and sultry horn lines. Sometimes stripped bare, sometimes hard-hitting, their songs tell stories of today’s world – from conversations with strangers to body memory, freight ships and NHS waiting lists.

Led by Polly Meyrick on vocals, saxophone and clarinet, Caraway’s line-up blends electronic and organic sounds, resonating with artists like Bonobo, Submotion Orchestra, This Is The Kit, Ezra Collective and Portico Quartet.

Seamus Fogarty

Seamus Fogarty

We’re thrilled to welcome London based, alt-folk alchemist Seamus Fogarty to The Long Table on Thursday 22nd October!

The Irish born, London based singer-songwriter released his debut full-length ‘God Damn You Mountain’ on cult Scottish label Fence Records (King Creosote, Jon Hopkins) in 2012. This was swiftly followed by two critically acclaimed albums on Domino Records – 2017’s The Curious Hand (“magical amplified folk journeys through modern life” ★★★★★ – The Guardian) and 2020’s A Bag Of Eyes (“a gloriously trippy journey” – The Sunday Times) as well as an EP, Hee Haw on Lost Map Records in 2023.

His latest album, Ships is packed with poignant and funny slice-of-life vignettes touching on everything from Geoffrey Chaucer to DIY coffins, and existing in a sonic realm where songs and stories coexist peacefully with fragmentary electronics, drones and field recordings. It’s his most expansive and uplifting collection of music to date and has received wide support across BBC6Music, from the likes of Cillian Murphy ('one of my favourite artists around at the moment') as well as from Uncut (8/10), Analogue Trash, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC Scotland, BBC Ulster, BBC Wales, Radio X, RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2FM and more.

——

“JUST BRILLIANT” – CILLIAN MURPHY, BBC 6 MUSIC

“MAGICAL JOURNEYS THROUGH FABLE AND MODERN LIFE AND BACK AGAIN, OFTEN IN THE SAME SONG’ ★★★★★ – THE GUARDIAN

“BY TURNS GRITTY AND POETIC… A REAL ORIGINAL” ★★★★ – THE OBSERVER

“NESTLES BEAUTIFULLY AT THE POINT WHERE THE DIGITAL AND ANALOGUE WORLDS COLLIDE” ★★★★★ THE SKINNY

“ORIGINAL, SELF-CONTAINED AND UNENCUMBERED BY THE GENRE” ★★★★ MOJO

“THE GHOSTLY EMOTIONAL WALLOP OF THE TUNES WILL TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY” – IRISH TIMES

Sanctum | Alice Brookes, Manon McCoy and Emmy Lambert + Âellin

Join us on Saturday 4th April for a night of sonic explorations!

We’re excited to welcome sound artist and electronic musician Manon McCoy and vocalist and composer Alice Brookes to Sanctum. Together they work on immersive performance art using the voice, electronics, found sounds and objects. Their performance draw from research into alternative performance practices as a way of exploring the relationship between self and space. They create vast improvisations for voice and objects using live signal processing as an extended instrument. With DIY values at the core of this project, the due have self built a rig for their performances, combined instrument of electronics and objects, which constantly evolves with their work. The duo released their debut album April 2025 with Elektramusic Berlin in April 2025.

They are joined by sound engineer and composer Emmy Lambert for this site-responsive installation, exploring the acoustics of the space through live spatialisation during the performance.

—-

Weaving together the acoustic instrumentation of a folk upbringing, synthetic granular textures and captured sound; Âellin forges new auditory worlds that embrace nonlinearity and experimentalism through narrative song and bold improvisation. The project evokes themes of collective memory, dream states, and the unconscious realm. Built around a dynamic four-piece lineup, Âellin’s sonic environment traverses genres with a deeply textural sensibility. Expect an intricate blend of fingerstyle and jazz guitar, cello and violin strings grounded in the UK/Celtic folk and Hardanger traditions, double bass, deep sub-bass, beat-driven percussion, and an ever-shifting tapestry of augmented vocals and granular synthesis.

‘Âellin is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the UK experimental folk scene' - James Threlfall, BBC Introducing

Sanctum | CURTAIN TWITCHER + GRANDAD + Iridal

Join us for a night of sonic explorations.

Sheffield based female electronic duo Sophie Stone and Grace Griffin generate corrupted downtempo post Balearic chug pulses and wobbles, throbs and twitches- full of fat noises and bolshy Moogery. It's human and appealingly analogue. More Delia Derbyshire's Radiophonic Workshop than DAF, More Tangerine Dream than Depeche Mode. Not your average bloketronica.

“Northern Electro at its mesmerising best” - Now Then Magazine

“Love it! Electronic wonkiness at its finest” - Richard Norris (The Grid)

Experimenting in different styles of music and with different bands, Stroud-based Iridal draws from everything he has learnt over the years- from starting out as a Drum and Bass DJ in Torquay to running a club night for 2 years at the end of the 90s and early 2000s. Wearing his influences on his sleeve, Iridal brings a rich and playful helping of breakbeat, trance and dance to the table with the feel of Orbital and Kiasmos.

Stroud favourite GRANDAD returns with their signature sonic maximalism for an attention deficit age. Featuring electronic skulduggery, shoehorned geetar riffs and occasional coordinated bits, this is a line up not to be missed!

SANCTUM | GWENIFER RAYMOND + Jacob Lovatt and Christopher Haddow

Join us for a night of sonic exploration.

Welsh guitarist Gwenifer Raymond conjures sparse American primitive instrumentals drawn from the roots music of Mississippi and Appalachia. Influenced by the likes of Skip James, John Fahey, Roscoe Holcomb and John Hurt her latest release, Last Night I Heard the Dog Star Bark is a hybrid of the ancient and the futuristic, where the arcane etchings of occult folk horror fuse with the unfathomable equations of the cosmos. As celestial drones and mutant folk meet a frenetic blues that bends and twists like space-time, on her new album Raymond finds herself evoking the work of pioneering rocket scientists, the words of fictional hobo prophets and the concepts of mathematical infinity.

‘A profound talent’ - The Guardian
‘Raymond’s mastery of her instruments is unmatched’ - The Quietus
___

Jacob Lovatt and Christopher Haddow perform selected repertoire from the 17 year back catalogue of their seminal Glasgow cult band, Jacob Yates and The Pearlygate Lockpickers

A special brew of horror and loss ...  Singer and songwriter Jacob Lovatt tells stories of Saville haunted care home corridors, abandoned cars, faith healers and shape shifters. Accompanied on various guitars by Christopher Haddow, whose minimal slide and fingerstyle playing adds light and shade to Lovatts dark, narrative prose

A delicious pay as you can dinner will be served from 6-8pm.

Sanctum will start at 8pm in the Sanctuary
